Foundations of Woodworking

Foundations of Woodworking gets to the very core of the craft of woodworking: laying out, cutting, and assembling joinery for furniture and other treasured wood objects. This in-depth course will take you step-by-step through basic woodworking strategies that apply to anything you might build. Pekovich dives project-by-project into the essential wood joints, from rabbets and dadoes through dovetails and miters. Master these joints – with a combination of hand tools and power tools – and the door is open to create just about any design you can think of.

Furniture Design

Furniture Design For Woodworkers is a course which illustrates the process that Mike has developed and refined over the years while building his own work. You'll start by taking some time to get inspired and give some thought to the type of work you'd like to make. From there you'll practice sketching until it becomes second nature, and your sketchbook becomes a constant companion and a library of inspiration. Next, he'll show you how to take those ideas and translate them into workable furniture designs. Finally, he'll show you the importance of being able to see what you're building before you begin by creating scale and full-size mockups.

SketchUp For Furniture Design

SketchUp takes the guesswork out of woodworking by helping you create accurate plans that avoid errors while you build. This intensive course will help improve your SketchUp skills, giving you more advanced tools to design and build better furniture projects with efficiency. To get the most from this course, participants should be familiar with SketchUp's tools and functionality.

MIKE PEKOVICH

Mike Pekovich’s furniture-making career began when he stumbled into a basic woodworking class while studying art in college. In addition to woodworking, he studied graphic design, and the combination of those two pursuits eventually led him to Fine Woodworking magazine where he currently serves as the editor and creative director of the magazine.. Over his career, Mike discovered a passion not just for building, but for teaching the craft. Along with his magazine work, Mike teaches across the country, has written numerous articles for Fine Woodworking, and has authored two books. His first effort, The Why and How of Woodworking, speaks to the heart of what it means to be a woodworker, and offers guidance and inspiration for creating meaningful work. The recently published Foundations of Woodworking focuses on the basic techniques and strategies that are essential for success in the craft, and it serves as a basis for this course.
